Ground Floor and Loft Extension

Lees Architects extended an attractive but neglected early 1900s semi-detached property at ground floor and loft levels, with a full refurbishment throughout. The existing property retained many of its original internal features and benefited from an extended rear extension, which justified a significant addition to the ground floor. The owners wanted to create an open-plan area and introduce as much light as possible. We achieved this by relocating the ground floor WC and kitchen within the floor plan and introducing a wrap-around roof light at the junction between the extension and the existing first floor. Additionally, the ground floor features an oriel window and corner glazing.

The loft provides a generous master bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite, with enough space left for a private study. Work was done to retain key features from the original house, with several fireplaces being retained and restored. Ceiling and alcove features in key rooms were also preserved. Externally, chimney stacks and brick details on the eaves were carefully maintained throughout the construction, ensuring the house retained its period features. The result is a stunning extension that blends contemporary living while respecting the original dwelling.
