UPHILL ROAD

Extremely Strong Gesture of Geometry

Set on one of the most prestigious roads in Mill Hill, the diverse architectural styles along the street allowed for the creation of a unique house that utilises and celebrates 21st-century architecture. The unusual wedge shape of the site inspired a design comprising two 3,000 sq ft houses. This site-driven theme for each house’s geometry combines two pitched roofs meeting at the rear, providing both a distinctive front and rear elevation not seen before on the road.

The client specified that high-quality materials should be used to enhance the architecture and respond to the site’s natural features. To evoke this natural feel, high-quality timber and slate were selected. The contrast with the white render of the main walls frames these attractive materials, creating a powerful gesture of geometry and materiality. We received planning permission for the two houses in Autumn 2015.
